Community Leaders To Discuss Homeless and Housing Tomorrow

(Santa Ana) - Representatives from non-profit organizations, state agencies, Orange County cities and County agencies will meet tomorrow to discuss the county's recent award of $6.8 million from the Department of Housing and Urban Development through its Super Notice of Funding Availability (SuperNOFA) for Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance Programs. The competition funded 12 of the 13 requests submitted from Orange County. The requests focus on ways to address the needs of the county's low-income residents and the homeless who, according to a recent County survey, total 14,000 on any given night in Orange County.

Tomorrow's Continuum of Care Community Forum will be from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the LA Times meeting room at 1375 Sunflower Ave. in Costa Mesa. Co-sponsors of the meeting are the County Executive Office, Orange County Homeless Issues Task Force and the Shelter & Hunger Partnership of Orange County.

Also on the agenda will be presentations on advocacy; prevention/outreach and assessment; emergency shelter; transitional shelter; and permanent affordable housing. There will also be discussion of strategic plan development for the Children & Families Commission (Proposition 10).

This is the second of anticipated quarterly meetings for the Continuum of Care Forum. The meeting is open to the public. For further information, call Karen Roper at 834-3355.
