Second Installment Property Tax Payment Deadline is Monday, April 10

Orange County Treasurer-Tax Collector Shari Freidenrich today reminds Orange County taxpayers that the second installment of property taxes is due no later than Monday, April 10, 2017. Payments not received by Monday, unless they have a United States Postal Service stamp on or before April 10, will incur a 10 percent late penalty plus a $23 fee.

Internet Auction of Timeshare Intervals - Bidder Registration Closes April 10

The County of Orange Treasurer-Tax Collector's reoffer auction of tax-defaulted timeshare intervals will be held online April 18-19, 2017. The current list of 286 timeshares scheduled for auction with some minimum bids as low as $100 is available on the website at octaxauction.mytaxsale.com.

John Wayne Airport Issues Call for Artists: Orange County-related visual artists asked to apply for solo-style exhibition

John Wayne Airport (JWA) has issued a call for Orange County-related visual artists to apply for exhibition slots in JWA's Community Focus Space (CFS) program's exhibition calendar, beginning in October of 2018.

John Wayne Airport Posts February 2017 Statistics

Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport decreased in February 2017 as compared with February 2016. In February 2017, the Airport served 711,010 passengers, a decrease of 7.5% when compared with the February 2016 passenger traffic count of 768,864. In February 2017, commercial aircraft operations decreased 7.9% and commuter aircraft operations decreased 64.6% when compared with February 2016 levels.

Orange County Resident Wins John Wayne Airport's Road Trip to Chicago

On March 5, the Anaheim Ducks announced Orange County resident Greg Soto as the winner of John Wayne Airport's Road Trip Sweepstakes. The prize includes round trip air transportation for two from John Wayne Airport (JWA) to Chicago, hotel accommodations for two nights in Chicago and two tickets to see the Anaheim Ducks take on the Chicago Blackhawks on March 9.

Orange County Treasurer Shari L. Freidenrich announced that the next tax auction is scheduled for Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 1 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Hearing Room located at 333 W. Santa Ana Boulevard, Building 10, in Santa Ana.

County Begins Demolition of Building 16, First Step in Civic Center Facilities Master Plan

Demolition began yesterday as an entire wall of the County of Orange's Building 16 was knocked down, marking the beginning of exterior demolition and a historic milestone in the start of the County’s Civic Center Facilities Master Plan first phase.

John Wayne Airport Posts December 2016 Statistics

Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport increased in December 2016 as compared with December 2015. In December 2016, the Airport served 870,956 passengers, an increase of 1.4% when compared with the December 2015 passenger traffic count of 858,598.

Former OC Sheriff’s Deputy Pleads Guilty to Six Counts of Insurance Fraud for Falsifying Claims About Work-Related Injury

A former Orange County Sheriff's Department Deputy Sheriff II, pled guilty for defrauding the County of Orange of nearly $35,000 by making fraudulent statements and knowingly failing to disclose facts related to his workers’ compensation claim.

Intuitive Paintings Inspired by the Runes on Display at John Wayne Airport

From February 16, 2017 – March 16, 2017, a series of intuitive paintings inspired by the Runes, the ancient Nordic alphabet of archetypal symbols, and Tibetan Buddhist concepts by visual artist and writer Irena Carlson, will be on display at John Wayne Airport (JWA) as part of JWA's Community Focus Space Program (CFS).

Voluntary Evacuations in Silverado Canyon and Activation of Emergency Operations Center

At 9:00 a.m. today, a voluntary evacuation for the Silverado Canyon burn area was issued by County of Orange public safety officials due to potential flooding and debris flows. The voluntary evacuation is for homes east of 30311 Silverado Canyon Road. This voluntary evacuation has the potential to be upgraded to a mandatory evacuation as the storm progresses.

The County of Orange announced the launch of a mobile application (app) today called "myOCgov," a free interactive tool that makes information about County services easily accessible to community members on their mobile devices.

OC Public Works Flood Control Channel Maintenance and Security Project

Beginning today, the County of Orange Public Works Department is beginning a Flood Control Channel Maintenance and Security Project adjacent to the County maintenance road along the east side of the Santa Ana River in Orange. The project area will stretch from Orangewood Ave. to just south of the Garden Grove Freeway (22), at levee slopes under the east and west sides of the Santa Ana Freeway (5) and under the east side of the Garden Grove Freeway (22).

Court Reinstates Call Center to Assist the Public with Criminal and Traffic Cases

The Superior Court of Orange County has opened a new call center to assist the public with services and information regarding criminal and traffic cases. Assistance is available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese by calling 657-622-8459. An automated phone system is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and customer service representatives are available from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except Court holidays. Since the center’s “soft launch” on January 11, representatives have assisted an average of 145 customers per day.

County of Orange Reports First Influenza-Reported Death of Season

The County of Orange Health Care Agency has confirmed Orange County's first influenza-related death in a person under 65 this season. A male in his 50s who was a resident of Laguna Woods died of complications related to influenza infection last week. Public Health Laboratory testing confirmed that he was infected with influenza A virus.

Armories Open All Weekend During Storm

With coordination and support from the California Military Department and in conjunction with the County Office of Emergency Services and the Governor's Office of Emergency Services, the Orange County Cold Weather Armory Emergency Shelters (armories) located at both Santa Ana and Fullerton will operate with extended hours to provide shelter and protection to the homeless community during the upcoming storm.

Health Care Agency Reports Rapid Increase in Flu Activity

The Health Care Agency reports a rapid increase of flu activity in Orange County over the past few weeks and reminds residents that it's not too late to vaccinate. More than 900 confirmed influenza cases have been reported by local medical providers to date this season. Nine adults between the ages of 18-64 and two children under 18 years of age have developed severe infection requiring a visit to intensive care.

From January 17, 2017 – February 16, 2017, a series of pastel artworks by Laguna Niguel resident Ruth Kurisu will be on display at John Wayne Airport (JWA) as part of JWA's Community Focus Space Program. These pastels can be viewed on the Departure (upper) Level near security screening areas in Terminals A, B and C, and on the Arrival (lower) Level adjacent to Baggage Carousels 1 and 4.

Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport increased in October 2016 as compared with October 2015. In October 2016, the Airport served 918,116 passengers, an increase of 3.0% when compared with the October 2015 passenger traffic count of 891,073.

Supervisor Michelle Steel, Second District, has been chosen unanimously by her colleagues to serve as chairwoman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors for 2017. Supervisor Andrew Do, First District, will serve as the Board's vice chair.

Clerk-Recorder to Offer Extended Hours for Marriage Services this Valentine's Day

For those looking to tie the knot on Valentine's Day, look no further. To accommodate couples, Orange County Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen will be offering extended hours at his offices in Fullerton, Laguna Hills and at the Old County Courthouse in Santa Ana this Valentine’s Day. The department will close at 5:30 pm instead of its normal closing hours to issue marriage licenses and perform marriage ceremonies.

Construction Impacts County Civic Center Parking

On January 13, the County of Orange Hall of Administration (HOA) parking lot will be fully closed as crews move forward with the Civic Center Master Plan and the demolition of the existing Building 16. After the full closure on January 13, the north portion of the lot will be closed, with intermittent full lot closures as needed.

Court Extends Grand Jury Application Deadline to February 1

Hon. Kirk Nakamura, Assistant Presiding Judge of the Orange County Superior Court and chair of the Grand Jury Recruitment and Selection Committee, announced today that the Court has extended the deadline to apply to serve on the next Grand Jury to February 1, 2017 due to a shortage of applicants.

The County of Orange Treasurer-Tax Collector's internet auction of tax-defaulted timeshare intervals is scheduled for Jan. 18-19, 2017 at octaxauction.mytaxsale.com. The deadline to register as a bidder and make a $1,000 deposit is 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017. The current list of 382 timeshares scheduled for auction and their opening bid amounts is available on the website at octaxauction.mytaxsale.com.

Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport increased in November 2016 as compared with November 2015. In November 2016, the Airport served 884,617 passengers, an increase of 3.5% when compared with the November 2015 passenger traffic count of 854,452.

County Reaches Settlement Agreement in Lawsuit on OCPW Flood Control Channel Maintenance Project

The County of Orange reached a final settlement in the matter of Diehl v. County of Orange, the lawsuit filed by the ACLU of Southern California (ACLU) challenging the County of Orange Public Works (OCPW) department maintenance project activities along the Santa Ana Riverbed.

Survey Shows Continuing Widespread Availability of Tobacco Products in Orange County

New research shows that in Orange County the availability of e-cigarettes has grown by 12 percentage points and nearly 21% since 2013. This finding is part of new research released today on the availability and marketing of tobacco products, alcohol, condoms and healthy and unhealthy food options in California stores that sell tobacco.

Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport increased in January 2017 as compared with January 2016. In January 2017, the Airport served 793,774 passengers, an increase of 1.2% when compared with the January 2016 passenger traffic count of 784,248.
