Battling Cancer Through Art: Painter Showcases Her Journey at John Wayne Airport

After being diagnosed with breast cancer, artist Crystal Maes found comfort through painting vivid still-life images of lemons as a representation of the emotional and physical challenges she encountered while conquering the disease. Maes' artwork is on display in the JWA Community Focus Space from September 17 through October 17, 2019, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Orange County Treasurer-Tax Collector recommends those with unsecured property taxes related to business property, leased equipment, boats and aircraft for fiscal year (FY) 2019-20 submit payment by September 3 to avoid late charges.

OC Health Care Agency Removes Harbor Water Closure

The County of Orange Health Care Agency's (HCA) Environmental Health division has lifted the harbor water area closure encompassing Anaheim Bay, Sunset Aquatic Marina, Portofino Cove, Anderson Street Marina, Mother's Beach, and Admiralty Drive in the City of Huntington Beach. There are currently no water quality warnings or advisories in Huntington Harbor. Laboratory analysis of water samples collected yesterday confirms that the water meets acceptable standards.

OC Health Care Agency Issues Harbor Water Closure

The County of Orange Health Care Agency's Environmental Health division has closed the harbor water area encompassing Anaheim Bay, Sunset Aquatic Marina, Portofino Cove, Anderson Street Marina, Mother's Beach, and Admiralty Drive in the City of Huntington Beach due to a sewage spill. The spill of approximately 60,000 gallons was caused by a sewer main blockage in the City of Stanton.

Doing It My Way

June 27 marks National HIV Testing Day, which promotes testing and early diagnosis of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the virus that causes AIDS. This year's theme, Doing It My Way, is a call to action that encourages people to get tested for HIV in a way that is best for them. At the end of 2018, there were 6,369 individuals living with HIV in Orange County and by estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) an additional 893 residents have HIV and don’t know it – some of whom will develop AIDS before realizing they are HIV-infected.

For the First Time Ever, CalFresh Food Benefits Available to Eligible Senior and Disabled SSI/SSP Recipients

May is CalFresh Awareness Month and the County of Orange Social Services Agency (SSA) is pleased to announce that starting June 1, 2019, the State of California's CalFresh food assistance program will be expanded to include eligible older adults and people with disabilities who receive Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Payment (SSI/SSP) benefits. SSI/SSP benefits will not change as part of the expansion.

Irvine Company – Top Orange County Taxpayer Again!

For the seventh year in a row, the Irvine Company tops the charts as the No. 1 Taxpayer in the County. In addition, Charter Communications (Time Warner) is the top unsecured property taxpayer for fiscal year 2018-19. The top 20 taxpayers represent 5.40 percent and 5.99 percent of the total billed property taxes, for a total of $334,396,771, with the total property taxes billed up 3 percent from last year. More than $7 billion in property tax bills were issued this fiscal year.

May Proclaimed Foster Care Month in Orange County

At yesterday's Board meeting, the Orange County Board of Supervisors declared May as Foster Care Month and highlighted the significant need for the community to get involved in order to provide loving homes for foster youth. Members of the Board presented a resolution to leaders of the County of Orange Social Services Agency (SSA) for the Agency’s efforts to recruit qualified foster families, also known as resource families. The Board also honored local resource parents Melissa and Andrew Ferguson at the meeting.

The OC Health Care Agency (HCA) has confirmed the second case of measles in 2019, an infant under the age of 1 who is too young to have been vaccinated and is currently hospitalized. This case has no history of international travel. The infant was seen at the Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) emergency department while infectious.

The OC Health Care Agency (HCA) has confirmed the first case of measles in 2019, a resident of Placentia in her 20s who reported recent international travel to one of many countries currently experiencing widespread measles activity. The individual is considered infectious between April 23 and May 1, 2019 and is currently under voluntary isolation at home.

Board of Supervisors Approves Countywide Suicide Prevention Initiative

The Orange County Board of Supervisors announced that it has committed $600,000 of Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) monies for the creation of a countywide suicide prevention program. This funding will be given to MindOC, the fiscal entity of Be Well Orange County, an initiative bringing together public, private, academic and faith-based organizations, as well as others, to create a coordinated system of mental healthcare and support for all Orange County residents.

OC Parks 2019 Sunset Cinema Series

Grab a beach chair and some popcorn, because OC Parks is bringing the big screens back to your favorite regional parks again this summer. Enjoy 14 movies at seven different parks, Friday nights from June 14 through Sept. 13.

With the second installment of secured property taxes last timely payment date looming on April 10, Orange County Treasurer Shari Freidenrich reports that more than 150,000 individual taxpayers have not yet submitted their payments.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month

The County of Orange Social Services Agency (SSA) invited employees and citizens of Orange County to show their support in ending childhood abuse and neglect by wearing blue today, April 9, 2019, for National Child Abuse Prevention Month. In addition, residents are encouraged to take photos of themselves, their friends, coworkers and loved ones while wearing blue and tagging photos using the hashtag #GoBlueForOCKids on social media.

Bear Awareness Day

Come learn more about bears and have fun at the OC Zoo! Activities include bear crafts for kids, special zookeepers chats about bears, and a learning station where you can find out more about bear conservation and research, how to "bear proof" camping sites, and what to do if you see a bear.

OC Parks Presents The Annual Sunset Cinema Film Series For 2019

The County of Orange and OC Parks are pleased to present the annual Sunset Cinema film series, featuring 14 free, family-friendly movies at Carbon Canyon Regional Park, Craig Regional Park, Yorba Regional Park, Mason Regional Park, Irvine Regional Park, Laguna Niguel Regional Park and Bluff Park at Salt Creek Beach. Sunset Cinema brings recent and classic films to the big screen at your favorite regional parks every Friday evening throughout the summer, starting on June 14 and running through Sept. 13.

OC Animal Care to Remain Open through the July 4th Holiday for Owner and Lost Pet Reunifications

OC Animal Care is making it easier for pet owners to be reunited with their lost pets over the Fourth of July holiday with the belief that by helping lost pets find their way home sooner, it will create enough space for additional incoming stray animals.
