Appoints Airport Director Jan Mittermeier as Interim Chielf
Executive Officer
The Orange County Board of Supervisors
announced today the appointment of Jan Mittermeier as
interim Chief Executive Officer to replace William Popejoy
at the end of his tenure. Mr. Popejoy will leave the CEO
position effective July 31, 1995. As interim CEO, Ms.
Mittermeier will act as the principal management official
for the County and primary administrative advisor to the
Board of Supervisors. The CEO is appointed by and serves
at the discretion of the County Board of Supervisors.
Ms. Mittermeier currently serves as Director of John Wayne
Airport and is responsible for management of all airport
operations including air carrier access plan, implementation
of a general aviation master plan, revenue producing agreements
and leases for concessions and fixed base operators, airport
security and safety, emergency response activities and
airfield improvement projects.
Ms. Mittermeier was appointed by the Board of Supervisors
as Airport Director on September 25, 1990. She previously
served as Assistant Airport Director, where she was responsible
for airport operations related to the completion of a
$310 million expansion program.
A County employee since 1974, Ms. Mittermeier previously
directed the activities of the County's Internal Audit
Division, and during her career, she also managed the
Claims and Disbursing Division of the County's Auditor
Controller's office.
Ms. Mittermeier has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting
and a Master's degree in Business Administration from
California State University, Long Beach. In addition,
she earned a certificate in Executive Management from
the University of California, Irvine. Ms. Mittermeier
has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1979.
