County Appoints Chief
Financial Officer
(SANTA ANA) - County
Chief Executive Officer Jan Mittermeier today named Gary
Burton, Orange County Transportation Authority's deputy
director of finance and administration, as chief financial
officer for the County of Orange.
Burton, who has been with OCTA since 1992, was previously
an accountant and auditor for the County for nearly seven
years in the 1970s. He was also director of finance and
controller for the South Coast Air Quality Management
District for 13 years. He was an auditor for the Internal
Revenue Service for a year.
"I am very excited to bring Gary on board as part
of our team," said County Chief Executive Officer
Jan Mittermeier. "He has a solid knowledge of the
County operations and can also bring the perspective gained
from his other experiences. He is going to be an exciting
addition and will help us reshape County government into
a more responsive, efficient organization."
Burton will phase into his new position as he wraps up
activities with OCTA over the next several weeks. His
salary will be $115,000.
Burton is the fourth of five assistant CEOs being hired
by Mittermeier to help implement a restructuring plan
that was approved by the Board of Supervisors in June.
Three others -- public affairs, strategic planning and
human resources -- were named in June. The remaining slot
is for the assistant CEO for information and technology.
