County To Sign Friendship
Agreement With Tainan, Taiwan
SANTA ANA The
mayor of Tainan, Taiwan, George Chang, and a delegation
of 18 other Tainan officials will arrive in Orange County
tomorrow for a one-day visit to meet with the Board of
Supervisors and enter into a "Friendly City/County"
agreement. The letter of intent will be signed at an 11
a.m. reception in the fifth floor conference room of the
Hall of Administration in downtown Santa Ana.
The purpose of the agreement is to enhance the trade and
cultural relationships between Tainan and Orange County.
In early October a group of 22 Tainan businessmen will
return to meet with aeronautics firms in the county.
The County already has a City/County relationship with
the city of Tianjin, Peoples Republic of China. In January,
24 young performers, The Cathay Future Children Art Troupe,
from Tianjin visited Orange County as part of a cultural
exchange emanating from the agreement.
"We have hosted delegations from China on a regular
basis and have encouraged the entrepreneurial spirit of
the Chinese people who are experiencing phenomenal economic
growth," said Supervisor William G. Steiner who led
the Orange County delegation to Tianjin. "There is
much we can learn from one another."
Additional friendship agreements are in the works for
cities in Egypt, Korea and Germany in addition to the
Moscow region of Russia.
"Orange County offers the international business
community a strong business climate, a well educated work
force and a diversified economy," said Joanne Sokolski,
the Countys Chief of Protocol.
