Paula Burrier-Lund, currently the deputy executive director
of the San Diego Housing Commission, has been selected
as the Countys new director of Housing and Community
Development, County Executive Officer Jan Mittermeier
announced today.
While at San Diego, Burrier-Lund was responsible for the
Housing Commissions finance, policy, program development,
community relations and loan management operations. She
has 15 years of senior level management experience in
housing and community development and has previously worked
as manager of Community Development Block Grant programs
with the County of Los Angeles, director of Housing and
Community Development for the City of Lawndale and manager
of Housing and Redevelopment for the City of Santa Monica.
Burrier-Lund will lead the Countys Housing Department
that has an annual operating budget of $27 million and
a staff of 100 employees. The department assists cities
and developers in the rehabilitation and construction
of affordable housing. It also serves as the housing agency
for 14 cities as well as the unincorporated areas of the
County, and it provides Section 8 rental assistance to
low-income and disabled persons.
"Paula has exactly the kind of experience and knowledge
that we need to lead the Housing Department," said
Mittermeier. "She has worked in close cooperation
with for-profit and nonprofit development entities; federal,
state and other local government agencies; as well as
industry associations concerned with local community development
issues. We will benefit from the insight into these issues
that she brings."
Burrier-Lund starts her new job on March 29.
She holds two bachelors degrees from the University
of California, Berkeley: one in public health and one
in psychology. She also has a masters degree in
architecture and urban planning from the University of
California, Los Angeles. She is a board member of the
California Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies.
