County Takes First
Step in Neighborhood Revitalization
(Santa Ana) –
El Modena Pride Clean-Up Day will unite 21 County staff
members and local officials including Fourth District
Supervisor Cynthia Coad, County Executive Officer Jan
Mittermeier, City of Orange Mayor Joanne Coontz and Orange
Police Chief Andy Romero with more than 200 residents
to clean up the El Modena unincorporated area. On September
11, neighbors will reclaim their neighborhoods through
efforts such as graffiti removal, trash removal and other
cosmetic improvements.
"The goal of this program is to enhance community
pride by returning the neighborhood to its citizens,"
said Coad. "Aside from cosmetic improvements, youth
development programs have been implemented to provide
alternatives for young people to joining street gangs.
During the clean-up day, residents will be informed of
available public health services; the Children’s
Hospital of Orange County mobile unit will be present
to offer children free inoculations; and information on
parenting and child tutoring classes will be available.
Increased community–based policing and positive code
enforcement have been already been put into action.
"The community asked for our help, and this effort
celebrates the progress that the partnership between the
County, the City and the residents has made," said
Coad.
Volunteers should meet at 9 a.m. at the El Modena Community
Center, 18672 East Center Street in Orange. T-shirts will
be given to all children who participate. Southern California
Edison will provide refreshments and music, and Ware Disposal
will donate the use of six large trash dumpsters.
