Gerontologist Named
to Post by Board
(SANTA ANA) An
expert in aging was recently appointed executive director
of the Orange County Area Agency on Aging by the Board
of Supervisors.
Pamela M. Mokler, a gerontologist, joins the County with
leadership experience from both the private and public
sector following a nationwide search.
Mokler is the founder and previous executive director
of Quality Living Solutions, Inc., a team of specialists
serving the housing, long-term care, healthcare and managed
care industries. Under her direction, they developed and
implemented service-enriched housing plans and training
programs for housing staff and management.
"Her expertise in contracts, program development
and implementation, and building collaboration made her
the stand-out in the selection process," said Assistant
CEO of Human Resources Jan Walden. "She also brings
the agency and the senior community extensive knowledge
in marketing and finance."
Mokler has more than nine years of experience working
with the senior community on a variety of issues including
housing and healthcare. In 1997, she received a master's
degree in gerontology from California State University,
Long Beach. A gerontologist is a specialist in the study
of the biological, psychological, and sociological phenomena
associated with old age and aging.
Before founding Quality Living Solutions, Mokler served
as an ombudsman/residents' advocate to the Council on
Aging of Orange County, and as the Marketing Vice President
of SDS Investment Advisors.
Under her direction, the Area Agency on Aging will coordinate
and advocate support services for the senior population
of Orange County. The agency has a staff of 15 specialists
and an annual budget of approximately $8 million. Mokler's
annual salary will be $85,010.
According to demographic projections, seniors are the
fastest-growing segment of the Orange County population.
The agency provides assistance with contracts for meals,
transportation and other services to seniors. In addition,
the agency specialists staff the County's Senior Citizen's
Advisory Council appointed by the Board.
