Jean Lamb Wins Friendly
Honor
Tustin Octogenarian Jean Lamb is the
2000 recipient of the Annual Best Friend Award presented
by the Orange County Public Library to honor outstanding
service by an individual on behalf of libraries.
Involved with the Friends of the Tustin Library since
1975, Lamb was honored on June 8 by the Orange County
Public Library at its 20th Annual Friends of the Library
Recognition Tea, held at the Aliso Viejo Branch Library.
Tustin Branch Manager Emily Moore, who nominated Lamb
for the award, noted, "Jean has served as the her
group's president and secretary, as well as a volunteer
in the Tustin Friend's of the Library Bookstore. She is
also an ardent supporter of children's services, and regularly
lobbies the Tustin Area Women's Club for donations for
the children's department."
"It is due to Jean's hard work and unstinting loyalty
to the Tustin Library that the Friends has been, and continues
to be, a successful organization," Moore added.
Lamb
Best Friend judge Jane Dawson, Volunteer & Intern
Program Manager for the County of Orange, noted, "Jean
is a wonderful inspiration to others! The contributions
she's made during her 25 years of service with the Friends
of the Tustin Library demonstrate the very important role
that volunteers play within our communities."
Andrea Martin, South County Field Representative for the
Read/Orange County Literacy Program, and Best Friend judge,
said, "Jean is most definitely the Best Friend because
she has been true to her commitment as a Friend, not just
by raising funds, purchasing library resources, and working
in the bookstore, but by putting in an enormous effort,
year after year."
During the presentation, Lamb was given an engraved clock
by the Orange County Public Library, and 5th District
Orange County Supervisor Tom Wilson presented Lamb with
a special commemorative plaque from the County of Orange.
