SPECIAL EVENTS PLANNED
FOR ORANGE COUNTY OBSERVANCE
OF NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK
(Santa Ana) - Following
the theme "Healthy People in Healthy Communities",
the Orange County Health Care Agency, in partnership with
the Orange County Coalition for Health Education, will
participate in numerous special events during the upcoming
observance of National Public Health Week.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors has declared April
3-9, 2000 as National Public Health Week, celebrating
the significant advances in overall health and injury
prevention that have led to an increased life expectancy
for Americans. Among the events that Orange County Health
Care Agency personnel will be participating in are:
Breast Cancer Early Detection Partnership/ENCORE
Plus Breast Cancer Screenings to be held Thursday,
April 6 from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Orange
Senior Center, 170 S. Olive St., Orange; and
on Saturday, April 8 from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
at the Brea Community Center, 695 E. Madison
Way, Brea.
A presentation on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
by the SIDS Program at the Childbirth Education
Association of Orange County's Spring Mini-Conference,
Saturday, April 8 at Irvine Medical Center.
Community Information Booths to be staffed
by representatives of the Maternal, Child
and Adolescent Health Division at Veeh Elementary
School, Tustin, on Friday, April 7 from 3-6:30
p.m.; at the YMCA Healthy Kids Day, Saturday,
April 8 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Mall of
Orange; and at the YMCA Health and Safety
Fair, Sunday, April 9 from 12 Noon-4 p.m.
at the Yorba Linda Community Center.
The "Walk This Way" Pedestrian
Safety Event, through the Chronic Disease
and Injury Prevention Division in partnership
with the Safe Kids Coalition and FedEx, Thursday,
April 6 at King Elementary School, Santa Ana.
A Child Passenger Safety Workshop, being
offered by the Chronic Disease and Injury
Prevention Division on Tuesday, April 4 for
law enforcement personnel and first responders.
The Religion and Health Conference, Thursday,
April 7, conducted by California State University,
Fullerton and the Center for the Study of
Religion in America. The conference is co-sponsored
by the Orange County Health Care Agency.
Presentations in the Cambodian language
by the Multi-Ethnic Health Education Services,
including a program on Public Health and Sudden
Infant Death Syndrome, Monday April 3 from
10 a.m.-12 Noon to the Cambodian Buddhist
Association; on Public Health and Safe Healthcare
to the Cambodian Family, Inc., 1111 E. Wakeham
Ave., Santa Ana, at 2 p.m., Monday, April
3; and on Public Health and Safe Healthcare
for new Cambodian Immigrants, Thursday, April
6 at 2 p.m. at Cambodian Community, 2209 W.
Larkspur, Orange.
Health information booths staffed by the
Safe Healthcare Project on Thursday, April
6 at Northgate Market, 1623 W. 17th Street,
Santa Ana; Saturday, April 8 during YMCA Healthy
Kids Day at the Mall of Orange; and on Sunday,
April 9 during the YMCA Health and Safety
Fair at the Yorba Linda Community Center.
Health education information will be offered
Friday, April 7 at the Albertson's Supermarket,
770 S. Harbor Blvd., Santa Ana.
The National Public Health Week activities are designed
to further the Health Care Agency's mission of creating
and supporting an environment that promotes the achievement
of optimal individual, family and community health.
