AAA Director to Meet
Senior Community
(SANTA ANA) Government
officials, providers of senior services, and Orange County
seniors will attend a reception next week for the County's
recently appointed director of the Area Agency on Aging.
The event begins at 9 a.m., January 31 at the Old County
Courthouse, 211 West Santa Ana Boulevard in Santa Ana.
"Research by Chapman University shows that seniors
are the fastest-growing age group in Orange County and
will account for nearly a quarter of the population by
2020," said Bill Baker, Community Services Agency
Director. "We want everyone to learn more about the
services AAA provides and know that AAA is available to
help seniors with a variety of needs."
Following a nationwide search, the Board of Supervisors
named Pamela M. Mokler, a gerontologist, as AAA director.
Mokler has more than nine years of experience working
with the senior community on a variety of issues including
housing and healthcare. In 1997, she received a master's
degree in gerontology from California State University,
Long Beach.
Under her direction, the Area Agency on Aging will coordinate
and advocate support services for the County's senior
population. The agency has a staff of 15 specialists and
an annual budget of approximately $8 million.
