Redistricting Hearings
(Santa Ana) - The Board
of Supervisors has scheduled three public hearings regarding
redistricting. The Board will review redistricting proposals
at two hearings, then adopt an ordinance reflecting the
new supervisorial boundaries at the third hearing. All
three hearings are open to the public. The first is at
9:30 a.m., June 26 in the Board hearing room, Hall of
Administration, 10 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana.
The Board will select new district lines and a County
Surveyor will prepare an ordinance based on those lines
at the second hearing, 2 p.m., July 17.
The adoption of a redistricting ordinance will take place
August 21 at the third hearing. After it is adopted, the
public has 30 days to challenge the ordinance.
The Board established a redistricting committee in October
2000 to guide the redistricting process and develop recommendations
utilizing the 2000 Census data. The current districts
were established in 1991 using 1990 Census data. The committee
is composed of representatives from each Supervisor's
office.
Committee members include Chairman James Campbell, First
District; Vice Chairman George Cardenas, Third District;
Nina Hull, Second District; Dean Olsen, Fourth District;
and Holly Veale, Fifth District.
