David Sundstrom Presents United Way with $826,706 Check
(Santa Ana) --The County
of Orange employees dug deep again this year for the annual
United Way campaign, surpassing their 2001 United Way
fundraising goal. The County's payroll-deduction campaign
and fundraising efforts produced $826,706.
Auditor-Controller David Sundstrom, who chaired the County's
United Way effort, will present awards to County department
heads and employees for their fundraising activities and
donation, which exceeded last year's total by $104,102.
Orange County traditionally runs one of the most successful
county campaigns in the nation.
The presentation will be held at 9 a.m. on January 10
at Santa Ana's Old County Courthouse.
"County employees have clearly demonstrated their
commitment to their communities," said Sundstrom. "I am
honored to have served as the chairman during this year
of critical need. This year, we shattered all prior years'
records, which I believe was partly a response to the
tragic events of September 11. I hope that we can keep
this spirit of giving alive and continue to increase our
donations and participation in the new year."
"Orange County's United Way continues to be the best investment
in our community," said Colleen Sandrin, Senior Vice President
of Resource Development and Marketing for Orange County's
United Way. "Focusing on developing children, promoting
health, increasing independence and building stronger
families, Orange County's United Way has its thumb on
the pulse of the areas of need in our community. More
than $22 million was allocated in 2000-2001 to meet these
needs. Attaining our goal of $27 million this year ensures
that we will continue to be the largest private funder
of health and human services in our community. The outstanding
success of the County campaign was a huge step for us
to meet this goal in these trying times."
