Audubon Of
The West: Andrew Jackson Grayson Bird Paintings
Exhibit Opens March 25
(SANTA ANA) - An exhibit commemorating
the life and work of foremost late 19th century bird painter,
Andrew Jackson Grayson, opens March 25 at the Old County
Courthouse Museum, 211 W. Santa Ana Boulevard in Santa
Ana. Titled Audubon of the West, the
exhibit will continue through May 6.
The exhibit examines Graysons life and art and explores
the study of birds, bird painting, and bird watching.
Prints and an audio-visual presentation will be featured
to provide a broader context for understanding Graysons
contribution to the study of birds of the American West.
Because Audubon of the West is an example
of how art interacts with history and science, museum
curators urge local schools to participate in a special
program for young students that will be offered in conjunction
with this exhibit.
The museum will also open for a special Sunday engagement
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 21, in observance of Earth
Day. The event will feature a presentation by Michael
Black, acclaimed author on social and ecological issues
confronting the West.
Audubon of the West is produced and sponsored
by the California Council for the Humanities, a state
affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities,
in partnership with the California Exhibition Resources
Alliance. The exhibition was organized by the Napa
Valley Museum.
The museum is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. Admission is free. For further information
