Chief Information
Officer Named for County
(Santa Ana) - An information
technology professional with extensive background in government
and private industry was named as the County's Chief Information
Officer by County Executive Officer Michael Schumacher.
Daniel K. Hatton, Ph.D., joined the County Jan. 10 with
I/T expertise gained in the private sector, most recently
as a consultant to international software companies and
previously as vice president and west region director
of Science Applications International Corporation. The
San Diego company provides a wide range of services to
the Department of Defense, local, state and federal government
as well as the commercial sector. Hatton was an Army colonel
and served as Chief Information Officer in locations including
Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.
Hatton will lead the County's Information Technology enterprise
that has an annual operating budget of approximately $70
million and a staff of 350 employees. The department is
an integral partner with County agencies and departments
in using technology for greater employee efficiency and
enhanced customer service. Governing Magazine's national
report card of county performance last year gave OC's
Information Technology section top marks.
Hatton received his Ph.D. in information systems from
Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
and a master's degree in management and information systems
from the American University in Washington, DC.
"Dan has an excellent mixture of public and private
sector experience that we need to lead the IT Department,"
said Schumacher. "He has a proven background of visioning
and developing innovative technology approaches. He'll
be a great addition to the County family."
Hatton was selected following a nationwide search which
included input from the IT Steering Committee. He replaces
Leo Crawford who recently retired.
