County Names New Director of Dana Point Harbor

(Santa Ana, CA) - County Executive Officer Thomas G. Mauk today announced that George Caravalho has been named Director of Dana Point Harbor for the County of Orange. He comes on board to consolidate the daily operations and revitalization of the Harbor.

Caravalho will be responsible for all aspects of Harbor activities. His primary focus will be on finalizing a comprehensive program for the revitalization of the commercial and marina areas of the Harbor. He will work closely with the Board of Supervisors and the City of Dana Point in addition to lessees, boaters and the community at large.

He has more than 25 years of experience as a City Manager working for the cities of San Clemente, Bakersfield, Santa Clarita and Riverside. Caravalho received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from San Jose State University. In addition, he completed the John F. Kennedy Program at the School of Government, Harvard University; the program is designed for senior executives in State and local government.

Caravalho has been an adjunct professor at California State University, Northridge teaching graduate level classes in leadership and organization, and strategic management. He joins the County on March 2.
