How did the EcoChallenge Education & Outreach program begin?
In 2011, the County of Orange and Discovery Cube partnered together to create three exhibits at Discovery Cube. 

1.     Discovery Market – Demonstrates to guests at Discovery Cube the impact that various products and packaging materials have on the environment and teaches visitors to reduce waste by making responsible shopping choices.

2.     Race to Recycle - Race to Recycle is a hands-on, highly interactive game in which guests are taught the difference between recyclables, household hazardous waste, including e-waste, green/yard waste and landfill waste. Guests are encouraged to apply the concepts learned in this game to sort their own household waste and to be mindful of conserving space in local landfills.

3.     Eco Garage - Inside Eco Garage, the goal of this challenge is to teach guests to identify household hazardous waste in their own homes and encourage them to properly dispose of these items by taking them to their local household hazardous waste collection facility. 

Once the exhibits were launched to the general public in 2011, both Discovery Cube and OCWR began working collaboratively to establish an identity or call to action for OC residents to associate the exhibits with environmental stewardship living. In February of 2013, OCWR and Discovery Cube launched a marketing campaign to bring awareness to this newly established call to action "Take the EcoChallenge".  This educational call to action has now emerged as the premier public-publicity outreach campaign on environmental stewardship in Orange County.
