Functions of Agency/Department:
The Health Care Agency (HCA) is a regional provider, charged with protecting and promoting individual, family and community health through coordination of public and private sector resources. Many of HCA's services are preventive in nature and therefore are not readily apparent to the public. Some examples of services include food protection, hazardous waste regulation, water quality monitoring and pollution prevention, mental health services, alcohol and drug abuse services, preventive health services for the aging, health care for incarcerated individuals, communicable disease control, child health and disability, immunizations, public health field nursing and public health clinics.
HCA Communications supports, coordinates and promotes effective communication in presenting the strengths of the organization and its employees in an accurate and timely manner in print and digital materials.
Intern Duties/Responsibilities:
Interns will work with staff to develop promotional materials for programs, including flyers, posters, brochures and social media content to promote various agency programs or services, using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).
Educational Requirements:
The internship is best suited for college students or recent college graduates who have completed coursework in graphic design, visual arts or related fields or have acquired skills/experience in these areas through personal or professional endeavors.
Skills, Training or Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have experience using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and demonstrate enthusiasm and an interest in applying design concepts in an applied setting within County guidelines.
Time Commitment:
Flexible schedules are available that consist of 10 - 20 hours per week for 10 - 12 weeks. Hours must be scheduled during regular business hours (Monday – Friday between 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.). Interns able to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for the internship typically gain a more in-depth experience.
