(Santa Ana, CA) – Due to record numbers of pediatric hospitalizations and daily emergency room visits for respiratory infections, the County Health Officer and OC Health Care Agency (HCA) Medical Directors are strongly encouraging Orange County residents to follow disease preventive measures.
SANTA ANA, Calif. – Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport increased in September 2022 as compared to September 2021. In September 2022, the Airport served 1,014,460 passengers, an increase of 29.4% when compared with the September 2021 passenger traffic count of 783,737.
SANTA ANA, Calif. (October 26, 2022) – The County of Orange (County), in partnership with the Orange County Workforce Development Board (OCWDB) and the California Employers Association (CEA), is now offering Human Resources (HR) trainings for employers in person in addition to online at no cost.
Since July 2021, the County has offered free monthly webinars on a wide range of HR topics and will continue to have this option available for employers. Examples of online and in-person trainings include Harassment Prevention Training for Supervisors and Harassment Prevention Training for Employees, both of which are required by California law (SB 1343) for employers with five (5) or more employees. Required HR trainings normally cost employers hundreds or sometimes over a thousand dollars each depending on the number of employees. However, the Orange County Board of Supervisors and OCWDB have partnered to provide a no-cost option for Orange County’s business community.

TUSTIN, Calif. (October 27, 2022) – OC Animal Care invites the community to Pooches on the Patio, a new meet-and-greet event for adopters to get to know dogs at the shelter before adopting. Stop by the shelter located at 1630 Victory Road in Tustin every Saturday, beginning October 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., where a few dogs will be out on the patio ready to meet their forever family.
To expand outreach and encourage shelter adoptions, OC Animal Care launched Pooches on the Patio and added it to the shelter’s list of regular programming to help get pets into their forever homes. Across the nation, shelters are seeing an overwhelming increase in animals, including Orange County. OC Animal Care is currently operating over capacity, which has created a critical situation for the animals and one that can’t be fixed without the community’s help.
In honor of Adopt a Shelter Dog month, OC Animal Care will continue to waive the adoption fees for all animals through October 31, 2022. Those who have been on the fence about adopting a pet are now in a great position to fall in love with their new best friend! Each adopted animal comes with a microchip, vaccinations, spay or neutering, and an anti-parasite treatment. Waived adoption fees do not include licensing fees or puppies six months of age or younger. With over 400 adoption visits available per week, potential adopters can schedule an adoption appointment today by calling (714) 935-6848. (Santa Ana, CA) – The OC Health Care Agency (HCA) has received confirmation that six birds have tested positive for Avian Influenza A (H5N1), also known as Bird Flu, in Orange County. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) recommends that hunters take precaution to limit the possibility of spread of infection to humans, and that the public stay clear of any sick or dead birds they may find.

Santa Ana, CA (October 4, 2022) – The Orange County Board of Supervisors appointed Robert Faigin as the new Executive Director of the Office of Independent Review (OIR) starting November 4, 2022. The OIR helps ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance with applicable law and best practices across five justice-related Orange County agencies.
Under the direction of the Board of Supervisors, Faigin will lead the OIR in reviewing specific incidences that involve the Orange County Sheriff Coroner Department, Probation Department, District Attorney, Public Defender and the Social Services Agency. Faigin will serve as an independent resource and counsel for the Board to ensure accountability in the performance and operations of these County departments
Faigin joins OIR from the San Diego County Sheriff where he served as the Director of Legal Affairs for more than 21 years. He provided guidance to the County Sheriff, Command Staff and Department personnel over the course of two decades since his appointment as Special Assistant to the Sheriff in 2001.Faigin and his team minimized risk and liability by writing legal opinions, conducting research, and coordinating with elected officials in the Board of Supervisors, County Counsel, District Attorney and Public Defender offices.
Before joining the San Diego County Sheriff Department, Faigin served as a Deputy District Attorney in Solano County and a Senior Deputy District Attorney in Lassen County. He has tried over 50 jury trials to verdict in addition to hundreds of bench trials.
As the Chief Legal Advisor to the San Diego County Sheriff and a former Senior Deputy District Attorney, Faigin has deep experience in law enforcement including the Public Safety Officers’ Procedural Bill of Rights Act, use of force, training, risk and liability. Having served on the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s Critical Incident Review Board, Faigin also reviewed critical incidences from multiple perspectives.
Faigin holds a Master of Public Administration from California State University–Dominguez Hills and a Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine School of Law. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from University of Nevada, Reno.
