Initiatives are statewide ballot measures that become law once passed by voters. The County of Orange is subject to both Federal and State laws. Through the Board of Supervisors, the County also passes and adopts local laws - called ordinances - that govern activities ranging from land use to public health and safety.
To implement these laws and guide the County operations, boards, committees and commissions are sometimes created and empowered as outlined by the law. The Board of Supervisors then appoint residents to serve on the respective boards, committees and commissions.
