ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (March 16, 2022) – The County of Orange (County) has been awarded $6,070,000 in funding under Round Two of the State Homekey program to acquire the former Riviera Motel in Stanton.
The County submitted the application for the motel conversion project as co-applicants with the Jamboree Housing Corporation (Jamboree) and in partnership with the City of Stanton. Jamboree is also the co-applicant and developer on two Homekey projects awarded funding from Round One.
Located at 11892 Beach Boulevard in Stanton, Riviera Motel involves the rehabilitation and adaptive re-use of a 21-room motel into Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH). 20 PSH units will target individuals who are at-risk of homelessness, homeless, or chronically homeless earning no more than 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI) including 9 units set aside for individuals meeting the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) eligibility criteria and 10 units for veterans. One manager’s unit will be provided onsite. The Riviera Motel will share a courtyard and amenities with the Tahiti Apartment Homes, formerly known as The Tahiti Motel, which received funding under Round One of the State Homekey program.
This project is the second awarded of the three the County of Orange applied for in Round Two of the State Homekey program, with HB Oasis being the first. If awarded all three, a total of 122 new affordable homes will be created for people experiencing homelessness who have been impacted by COVID-19 in Orange County. This will be in addition to the 132 units created from The Tahiti Motel and Stanton Inn and Suites projects awarded in Round One of the Homekey program.

Santa Ana, CA (March 4, 2022) – On February 8, 2022, Chief Probation Officer Steven Sentman announced his retirement from the Orange County Probation Department. Chief Sentman’s retirement is effective March 25, 2022.
“Being appointed Chief Probation Officer was one of the proudest moments in my probation career. Over the past 12 years, I have considered it a privilege and a great honor to serve the department as its Chief,” stated Orange County Probation Department Chief Probation Officer Steven Sentman. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have led an organization of such dedicated and talented people.”
Chief Sentman began his career with the department in 1985 as a Probation Night Counselor assigned to Orange County Juvenile Hall. He ascended through the ranks, joining the Executive Management Team in 2007.
Over the course of his career, Chief Sentman has been instrumental in enhancing the Probation Department’s role in the criminal justice system. He was part of the group that guided the County and department through the challenges of the 2011 Public Safety Realignment (A.B. 109), which shifted adult parole responsibilities from the state to the county level and included significant impacts to local justice system agencies.
Under Chief Sentman’s leadership, the department enhanced the use of youth programing from the moment they enter the juvenile justice system. The department made it a priority to focus on alternatives to confinement and community-based collaboration in working to assist youth with leading lawful and productive lifestyles. These efforts have proven to be beneficial to youth and their families, while also ensuring that the department maintains a commitment to serve the community and assist victims using efficient and research supported corrections practices. Objective use of programs and options such as wraparound, diversion and home supervision reduced further entry of youth into the juvenile justice system and have led to a sharp decline in juvenile detention in the County.
“I am proud to have been part of the team that built the Orange County Probation Department into the innovative, forward-thinking, respected agency it is today,” Chief Sentman said. “It is the right time for a new Chief to come in and take the department initiatives to the next level.”
The County will be conducting a nationwide-recruitment for this position.

We look forward to resuming in-person services in a manner that prioritizes the safety of youth, their families, and our staff.
To mitigate COVID-19 risks, anyone entering these facilities must comply with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Guidance for Management of Coronavirus in Correctional and Detention Facilities.
