Disaster Recovery

Recovering from a disaster is usually a gradual process. Safety is a primary issue, as are mental and physical well-being. Visit Ready.gov/recovering-disaster for recommendations on steps to take after disaster strikes in order to begin getting your home, your community and your life back to normal.

Evacuation Tips

Evacuations are more common than many people realize. Fires and floods cause evacuations most frequently across the U.S. The amount of time you have to leave will depend on the hazard. Many disasters allow little or no time for people to gather even the most basic necessities, which is why planning ahead is essential. Ready.gov/evacuation offers guidelines on what to do if you are asked to evacuate.

Water Well Disinfection and Testing

Individual water wells may be contaminated as a result of debris flow or flood damage to well system equipment and piping, including the need to access the well casing or replace water lines for the well. Once all repair work is completed to the well and water lines, the well should be disinfected and water samples taken to a State Certified Laboratory for testing.

Visit the OC Health Care Agency's Water Quality Laboratory (WGL) website.
